When I think back of all of our travel-adventures these past few years, only a few food-experiences pop-up in my mind. Our visit(s) to the Scalinatella-restaurant in Bologna was one of them.
Recommended by our hotel receptionist, we went by the restaurant on our first night to fill our rumbling stomachs without any expectations. The menu and restaurant itself looked pretty basic, so our hopes weren’t that high that evening. But wow .. We were blown away by it’s value-for-money and simplicity.
The pizza’s are freshly baked into a traditional wood stove, and the meat and cheese is daily fresh. The pasta is made on the spot, which takes a bit longer to prepare, but is definitely worth your time.
We started out with a basic (Sfizio?) antipasti – and we ordered one per person – and were already blown away by the quantity-for-price and quality of the food. In all honesty, I was already full when I ate the whole plate. But after this antipasti, we had a ‘primi platti’, pizza and dessert. FULLLLLLLLL! Too. Much.Food!
Also, we shared a bottle of – delicious! – house wine and got a grappa or two on the house. Total bill of that evening? 29,50 euros. Are you kidding me? Does it surprise you we went back there three times during out visit?
Oh, and sorry the pictures don’t look all that good. I took them in 2011 with a pocket camera, long before the idea of this blog popped into my head. Just didn’t want to keep this fabulous restaurant from you!
